Non-Certified or Certified Utilities Operator

This position is responsible for performing specialized duties in the operation of Wastewater.  Water Certification (Level I, II, or III) is preferred, but applications will also be accepted for non-certified workers who have the ability to become state certified when eligible.

Duties include the collection of wastewater samples and laboratory analysis, inspects lagoons for leaks and the operation of equipment, building and grounds maintenance, repairs pipes, manholes and catch basins.  Maintains an adequate inventory of parts, supplies, etc. and efficiently performs work tasks in the wastewater distribution system.  Responds to after-hours emergencies.

Minimum qualifications include basic skills typically associated with a high school education and sufficient experience to understand basic principles of a water distribution and maintenance system, such as an apprenticeship or experience working.  Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid SD driver's license.  Possession of or ability to readily earn appropriate state-certified water license when eligible.

This position moves through the pay scale by passing State Operators Certification courses.  A non-certified worker starting wage is $20.363 per hour; Operator I is $23.615 per hour: Operator II $24.811 per hour; Operator III is $26.067 per hour.  The successful candidate may start above entry level, DOQ.

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent education.  Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid SD driver's license.  CDL preferred.  Ability to readily obtain appropriate state-certified water operators certification upon eligibility.
